Hi,

I'm writing this while settling back in at home after a few refreshing days away in sunny LA. I've got this Taylor Swift video about fall on repeat, and am putting the finishing touches on our upcoming wedding (yes, another one; the real "party" after our micro-ceremony last year). I've also started several new books in my fall book stack—Braiding Sweetgrass is one of them, and I highly recommend it for a calming, nature-filled nonfiction read. I’m loving these cozy fall vibes and the fact that I finally have things to look forward to. What a concept! Sharing fun times with family and friends this season will feel extra special after...well, the past two-ish years of relative isolation.

Speaking of cozy, I can't forget to mention that this time last year, the team and I were busy launching Whiled, our line of puzzles and goods designed for downtime. Happy first birthday, Whiled! I can’t believe it was just a year ago—and I had no idea when we launched that we’d do it in the midst of a global pandemic. If you purchased a puzzle from us, I hope it offered a bit of comfort during an uncertain time.

Spotted: The Whiled tote in LA. It travels well :)

If you're looking for a great gift for yourself or others that encourages slowing down, away from a screen, check us out — Whiled is now stocked in Nordstrom stores IRL and online across the US! 🎊

Happy fall,
Alisha, Founder at Girls' Night In

P.S. We’re looking for a part-time content production assistant to work with us in November and December. This person will help us build out a lot of our holiday content on our website and in newsletters. Is that you? Apply here! (The position is remote!)

weekly picks

from the GNI team
  • Some cheese-related recs… These Ritzy Cheddar Chicken Breasts make for some extremely juicy white meat, not to mention an excellent salty-crunchy crust. Carey can’t stop eating this marinated feta—it’s just the right amount of tangy meets creamy. Bonus: Once the feta is gone, save the olive oil to use when roasting veg.

  • Prioritize your mental health during the holidays with TruZen® CBDThis clinically-tested CBD supplement is a category changing, fast-acting softgel developed from the highest quality ingredients—without any THC. Made for daily use, it quickly alleviates anxiety and sleep issues while elevating your wellness over time. Individual results may vary. GNI readers can get 10% off your purchase of the 10-Day Trial box with code GirlsNightIn10! Sponsor
  • A really great book we’ve read recently… The Days of Afrekete is about a four-month relationship that technically ended… but did it really? A fast read that examines what we’re willing to give up in order to have the life we think we want.

  • A head start on wintery beverages: "I have been making hot toddies with Bellocq’s delicious Christmas tea, some whiskey, and bountiful heapings of honey. So soothing, calming and festive—perfect on a weeknight, perhaps with some holiday music in the background? Never too early, in my books." - Aishwarya Iyer, Founder/CEO, Brightland Guest Rec
  • For when we are feeling like we got our sh*t together… These glam sunglasses scream “I am confident and classy.” These clogs say “I am casually chic, and also a very good artist.” This travel bag says “I am the definition of friend crush.”

  • Statement socks have been coming up A LOT in our Slack recently… Here are some of our top picks: Sheep! A lil smile. More smiles, but make them flowers. Not totally a statement, but a classy crew. And some bright stripes.

  • For sleeping without your phone… Alisha is into the Loftie, with built-in white noises and a two-phase alarm to gently wake you up, and then one to get you out of bed.

  • A podcast episode worth your time… “This episode from The Man Enough Podcast argues that compassion is more important than comprehension. I loved hearing from a gender non-conforming person about their perspective on masculinity and femininity. You don’t have to understand fully (and indeed you can’t!) someone else’s struggles or pain to be compassionate. So many drops of wisdom from Alok about mercy and the beauty of learning.” -Megan
  • Low stakes hot takes, Halloween edition: Dark chocolate mass market candy is never dark enough (Carey). Related: Milky Way Midnight is superior to the original (Katrina). Candy corn is practically perfect in every way (Alisha). Almond Joys are for adults, not kids (Olivia). Crunch should be a more popular candy bar and it makes no sense that they seem to have fallen out of favor (Mary Anne). Reese’s shaped like pumpkins are better than the original shape because of a better peanut butter to chocolate ratio (Jenny).
