3-2-1: How to negotiate salary, boring SEO guide and list of skills senior engineers need

Hello my friends.

Here's what I picked this week. Enjoy :-)

💎 Tech & Dev World

1. Ask HN: Negotiating Salary

TL;DR: The entire HN is discussing how to negotiate salary.

Why I enjoyed it: A lot of valuable advice from experienced developers and CTOs.

Favorite line: "This is the best single source of information on the topic: https://www.kalzumeus.com/2012/01/23/salary-negotiation/"

2. An incomplete list of skills senior engineers need, beyond coding

TL;DR: 23 skills that are useful to have for a senior+ engineer.

Why I enjoyed it: The list shows what skills you can acquire to grow as an engineer. Many of these skills are very useful to have, others are critical.

Favorite line: "21. How to find interesting work on your own, instead of waiting for someone to bring it to you"

3. Boring SEO

TL;DR: SEO advice for people who want to promote their product or startup with organic traffic and are willing to put in the work.

Why I enjoyed it: Short, informative and straight to the point.

🔥 Web Development

1. An in-depth perspective on webpack's bundling process

TL;DR: A very long article that describes how Webpack works under the hood.

Why I enjoyed it: It's very detailed and insightful.

2. Photoshop's journey to the web

TL;DR: The details of how Adobe ported Photoshop to the web.

WebAssembly and its C++ toolchain Emscripten have been the key to unlocking Photoshop's ability to come to the web, as it meant that Adobe would not have to start from scratch, but could leverage their existing Photoshop codebase.

Why I enjoyed it: It answered my question, "How the hell did they port an app that uses over 2 gigabytes of RAM, takes a long time to load, and sometimes freezes to the web?"
