I watched the first episode of Get Back and it was… interesting but slow?

Can’t remember where I read it but someone described it as a reality TV show of what making an album looks like.

It was definitely that… and there was no through line or plot. It definitely helps to know that the end result is what would turn out to be their famous final public performance on that now-famous English roof.

One thing that becomes extremely clear is that Paul was the driver of the group, and Ringo was extremely patient (he basically was at his drums for most of the episode waiting for the other 3 to figure out what they were playing, with George arguing w/ Paul and John.

PS: How old were you when you realized The Beatles was a pun?

Scott Alexander book review of Lifespan (article)

I read about a third of the book this weekend, the summary gets most of it.

One of the hardest parts on any new or big project is convincing people that it’s even possible. Building an electric mass production car? Sure. Going to space? Sure. People renting their homes to strangers? Sure.

Death is so embedded into human culture that we’ve invented from whole cloth many many religions since the beginning of our species to make ourselves feel better about it.

It’s so ingrained that aging itself isn’t even classified as a disease.

It feels like in the past 5 years the possibility of solving aging has entered the overton window.

And yet… if it was really something we thought was possible, wouldn’t we be clamoring and yelling to get it solved?

I think we still need some convincing to increase our urgency.

Ignore your limits (podcast)

From the My First Million podcast - if you ever want to be reminded to get off your ass, be creative, try hard things but in a way that’s not super bro-y I always like this podcast.

This one they talk about how most fears are kind of ridiculous if you can just get the rational part of your brain to say them outloud.

Another good recent episode was with Noah Kagan, founder of AppSumo. He talks about getting to meet Peter Thiel, and Sam reveals that he made $20m+ from selling the Hustle to Hubspot.
