What if everything in your life and relationships was utterly the result of your misunderstanding?

What if you missed the truth so completely that you lost everything you might otherwise have had?

There are broadly two factors that impact your illusions:

The experiences and the teachings you have had while growing up, and
The information you consume on day to day basis.

Thus the past and the present both play a role in building, modifying, and changing your illusions.

The way you deal with your past affects your present and your future.

If you replay bad experiences every day and feel agitated, under-confident, or angry, you relive those bad experiences and invite similar ones in your present.

Remember when you watch a movie that has made you cry? It’s not real, but it has affected your mood, and your feelings for real — illusions on the big screen have affected you in real life.

Memories of the past and the meaning you have attached to them work in the same way, but unlike movies, they are with you always and have the power to snatch away your peace at any time.

It is impossible to change your past, but it is possible to give it a new meaning.

It is possible to release the dark experiences of the past, use them to fuel your growth, and build a new present.

One way to do it is to accept the past as it is and change the way you look at it — to give your past a new meaning so that it can help you build the life of your dreams instead of stealing your time, energy and peace.

Another way to do it is to challenge your illusions openly. Whatever you have been made to believe, challenge it, think independent of it, desire independent of it, and then go all in to test it out.

The truth is, you have only two resources, the present moment and your energy at this present moment. What you will get out of your life, happiness or misery, depends solely on how you spend these two resources.

The illusions you have around your head can either make you spend these two resources on building yourself or force you to spend them on sabotaging your growth.

The good news is, you are fully capable of conquering your illusions and designing them to serve you.

With this we have come to an end of this course. Before I bid adieu, I would like to leave you with this reflective poem written by legendary poet Walter D. Wintle in the 19th century that echoes the power your illusions have on your life:

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost a cinch you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you've lost;
For out in this world we find.
Success begins with a person's will.
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before.
You can ever win the prize.

Life's battles don't always go.
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the person who wins.
Is the one who thinks he can!
