The New EOS Paradigm: Creativity and Networking Inspired by Multi-threaded Development
Everything EOS just became the EOS Network Foundation’s official YouTube channel. What a way to kick off the first video by bringing together Dan Larimer, Yves La Rose and Zack Gall. Three of EOS’s most influential minds discussed the future of the mainet and how it’s changed. Look out for parts two and three of this groundbreaking interview. Following introductions, a few references are made to B1’s leadership. All agreed on the inhibiting effects of bottlenecking as it relates to development. Concepts of ”single-threading” vs. “multi-threading” were used to exemplify how the development paradigm has evolved. Using programming language to illustrate the mainnet’s shift in philosophy aids in characterizing the scope of EOSIO/Mandel. Few blockchains offer the speed and ease of EOSIO core development. Even fewer communities can work together to simultaneously manifest multiple projects. Transitioning from a B1 Mindset to Mandel 3.0Under B1, new projects were brought to market in linear fashion. Virtually all development teams coordinated with B1 initiatives. Single-threaded development persisted as the status quo so as not to derail B1’s plans. This came with obvious limitations. A lot of faith was placed in B1. From the beginning, it’d been tasked with releasing new versions of EOSIO. Why would a development team risk a new project that ‘doesn’t playing well’ with the mainnet’s core technology. Dan particularly pointed out this issue. He went as far to say that even his own company, ClarionOS, while dedicated to making Mandel (EOSIO 3.0) a reality, the need for improving features like new user onboarding outweighs allegiance to the mainnet. Hopefully, ClarionOS projects will go live and remain on the EOS mainnet for decades to come. Note that Dan’s only other consideration was another version of EOSIO. So like WAX, multi-chain compatibility with ClarionOS products and service is an all but foregone conclusion. Be aware that single-threaded development is not at all a necessary construct. Some may believe this to be the case, but those same parties likely still envision a B1-run show. The New EOS is Dynamic, Nimble and ProductiveToday’s EOS is dynamic, creative, and independent on many fronts. Development is multi-threaded. This fact is no better illustrated by the shared responsibility, support, and independence of ENF and ClarionOS teams. And, don’t forget what’s transpiring out of EdenOS and Pomelo. The maturity of the EOS developer community is only part of the reason why a dynamic environment can exist today. Understanding what to prioritize owes some revelation to the shared struggles and growing pains of the EOS mainnet. The community knows when to universally cry out “NO!”. Furthermore, key applications and developmental easements often garner echoes of “YES!”. Such positive responses already culminate to the point of successful deployment (e.g. EdenOS, Pomelo). In terms of where the community’s focus resides, one needs look no further than Pomelo quadratic funding. Community voices are heard loudly here. Both financial power and independent EOS accounts determine the future of funded. Even after just a single round, rumblings can be felt by with the early success of projects like EOS Support and EOS Bees. More PowerIn terms of large scale development, the mainnet community no longer relies on a single corporate endeavor. Rather, there’s Dan’s company (ClarionOS), a trusted Foundation (ENF), contracted teams, independent BPs, and other outside influences like the attention of Google Cloud. Need an example of how much impact an EOS project can have on its own? How about EOS Market Place (and Microloan) ? Scroll through the team’s twitter. View images of all the good this market has already done delivering real products (some with EOS branding) to real people. Close to HomeRecall how the ENF and Pomelo impact new project development. Team Writer (Cryptowriter, Finney, UNDRGRND…) received funding from both. It’s allowed development to continue full steam ahead. Concluding ThoughtsThe new multi-threaded paradigm inspires community appreciation and networking. So while yes, from time to time, ‘toes may be stepped on’, forging deeper bonds, discovering networking relationships, and further inspiring creativity can already be witnessed peering out over the New Dawn. EOS brings blockchain closer to home. All that, and without even mentioning Team Greymass and Head Chief Aaron Cox.
