Trevor McKendrick - Turning dreams into reality

Good morning dear readers,

FYI - last week’s email someone went into a LOT of spam inboxes. Cross fingers it’s fixed, but if you thought you missed an issue now you know why.

Have a great week!

Trevor

David Perell’s Write of Passage (sponsorship)

This week's newsletter is sponsored by David Perell's Write of Passage.

I write this newsletter because writing consistently online is one of the best ways to attract new opportunities, clarify your thinking, and meet interesting people who can accelerate your career.

David's Write of Passage is a cohort-based program that helps you overcome procrastination & perfection so you can get your thoughts onto the page and out into the world.

When I sent the email a few months ago asking if I should shut down the newsletter, David wrote me back, true to form: "Of course you should keep the newsletter!" He believes what he preaches.

David's been a reader of the newsletter for years now and I love that he's now a sponsor with Write of Passage. Enrollment is open until February 21st.

Can Democrats see what’s coming (article, NYT)

Ezra Klein on the left’s inability to paint a vision of the future beyond what they want to copy from Western Europe.

The Fall of Roam (article)

I stopped using Roam for my note-taking a month or two after starting. I agree with the author on what was the best part of Roam: not having to decide where to start taking a note. It felt like a godsend. Every day had a new page, and you had the double brackets to mention any topic/idea/person…. basically any proper noun.

The issue was…what did you do with the notes after? How do you reconsume them? I never got into any sort of cadence that would help me review. And I tried to go all in - ditching my todo app Things for todos in Roam. This became a disaster when I didn’t have an easy way to find todos that had minimal mental burden.

I’m still rooting for Roam - one of my personal rules is no dissing on startups - but I felt almost the same sense of “loss” as the author of this article and wanted to share.

Age of Moms in the US when kids are born (short article with distribution charts)

The median age of moms for the first kid is 27.

Highlights from a Twitter conversation on why Joe Rogan is popular (article)

I agree with many of these points - yet as a meta note it’s interesting how fans of Joe would IMO very much not use these terms to describe the reasons they listen.

Elad Gil on how to make (early) career decisions (article)

Optimize for your network & your employer’s growth rate, not your role or your compensation.

50,000 Candy Hearts turned into sand artwork (youtube video)

Her line at the end when she was done creating the art resonated with my entire vibe & worldview: “This was just a dream in my brain and now there it is in the world”

And Finally…

You can share the newsletter using your referral code with any of these links: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, or email.

Have a great week!
