CreativeMornings - When we feel invisible

“To a lot of people I’m nothing but a cause. But I’m a person first, so I feel invisible.”

As a hip hop artist, community activist, and director of Lexington’s youth violence prevention program, Devine Carama is a charismatic and highly visible public figure in his city. Nevertheless, he feels invisible. In his talk for CreativeMornings/Lexington, he shares vulnerable stories about the times he has felt unseen — because of his race, because of the assumption that there are limited seats for creatives of color, because he cannot ask for support when others are suffering more. Watch Devine Carama’s poignant confessional and grasp how each of us holds so much more than what others perceive.

Tell us about folklore in your life

Our upcoming March theme is Folklore, chosen by our Guatemala City chapter. It’s a beautifully global subject with highly local implications. So we want to turn it over to you: what comes to mind when you think of folklore? What folkways do you practice in your life? Whether it’s a song, recipe, book, article, poem, or other artifact, you can share your submissions in this form. We’ll feature a round-up of folklore submissions in next month’s theme newsletter!
