Morfternight

by Paolo Belcastro

πŸ‘‹ Hello Reader!

I know, I know! I should have sent this one yesterday.

It's issue 022, and yesterday's date was 22022022, for some people.

Not for me, though.

Look at the top of this email, and you'll notice that yesterday was 2022-02-23

I mean, I get it, people can order dates however they wish, but the ISO format yyyy-mm-dd is vastly superior to all others for a few reasons.

The most important to me are:
  • First, one can easily sort a list of dates by treating them like numbers.
  • Then, reading the date, we progressively increase the precision, with each bit being useful on its own.
Do you agree with me?

Focus vs. Prioritization

I have been obsessed with the notion of focus recently.

Over the last few years, I have become better at prioritizing and saying β€œno” to the less impactful things, and I have been calling that β€œfocusing.”

A few days ago, I stumbled upon this short video on Twitter.

What focus means is saying β€œno” to something that you, with every bone in your body you think is a phenomenal idea, and you wake up in the morning thinking about it, but you say β€œno” to it because you are focused on something else. β€”Jony Ive
I think there is a subtle difference between prioritization and focus.

β€œThe difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug.” β€”Mark Twain

This kind of difference.

πŸš€

I started a new series of atomic essays, I call them Atomic Reviews.
I recently realized that I would love to become better at keeping in touch with my friends and all the interesting people I have the chance to meet professionally and that without a proper system, I suck at it.

So, I went on a quest to find a tool that works for me.

This first series of Atomic Reviews relates to my exploration. These are the first four posts. There are more to come (I am testing at least ten apps, probably more as y'all suggest new ideas. Please don't hesitate!)

That's it for today! You can find more of my stuff on paolo.blog, and if you think that someone you know could enjoy Morfternight, the newsletter to share, please forward it to them or send them this link to subscribe.

Cheers!
