BOOTCAMP projects: REDDIT and YOUTUBE CLONES

Hi Reader

Today I have the previews of 2 more projects we'll be building in the 2022 Web Development Bootcamp that will open on March 29, just 4 weeks from now!

One project is a Reddit clone

Another project is a YouTube clone

Those are two very big and well known social media platforms.

I really like working on those projects because those are two of the sites I visit the most, and being able to replicate some of their features is really interesting.

All the projects use React, Next.js, Tailwind CSS and on the backend we use PostgreSQL through Prisma. A very modern stack that gets out of the way and lets you focus on the problem to solve, ideal for both beginners and experienced developers.

The bootcamp is focused a lot on giving you the ability to work on projects.

And it's perfect if you're starting from absolute scratch, or you consider yourself a beginner developer. We'll learn all the tools from zero.

We'll focus less on things like "learn everything about JavaScript" or "learn all the advanced React features you'll rarely use" but we'll learn just the things we need to be able to work on projects.

That's where the real learning happens. While you're "in the zone" working on real applications.

And if we'll need something more while working on the projects, we'll learn it along the way.

Like it happens in real life. As developers we can't be expected to know everything, but we are expected to figure things out.

And this is something you'll learn in the Bootcamp.

You'll find that most things in projects repeat and there are patterns in how we build apps.

As a developer, you never "fully know" something before working on it.

But it's important to learn how to solve problems.

Understand the mindset and how to think about building an app.

You'll follow me while I work on the project.

At the end of it there are exercises I propose to work on your own.

For example in the Reddit clone we let users upvote or downvote posts.

But I haven't implemented this functionality for comments. So one proposal is, implement votes on comments.

Another example is, we have a user profile that shows the posts made by a person. An exercise proposed is to also show comments.

The follow-along part gives you the tools and real examples you can go back and consult when you're on your own.

And for each problem the community is always available for feedback and help, that's one of the benefits of the cohort-based course.

Maybe that's the single best reason for having a cohort: a supportive and dedicated community, all working together at the same time on the same project!

This is a once-a-year event that will last 20 weeks.

The bootcamp registrations are set to open 4 weeks from now, on March 29, and the bootcamp will start the week after, April 5.

Find out all the info and pricing on https://bootcamp.dev

Remember to sign up to the bootcamp waiting list ðŸ˜€

Have a great week!
