In 2016, if you typed “Crocs” into Google, the word “memes” was the 3rd most common word associated with the brand. Crocs has repeatedly been on the receiving end of merciless teasing from all age groups, despite having many die hard fans.

Over the past 6 years the brand has transformed itself and Crocs have been seen on celebrities like Post Malone, they have collaborated with fashion houses like Balenciaga, and they’ve become increasingly popular with Gen Z.

Crocs shifted 100% of their marketing spend to digital, and it paid off. Digital marketing allowed Crocs to scale up globally with ease, and they cite user generated content as a key way to get to know their customer and drive engagement with the brand. Crocs uses “social listening” (the process of identifying and assessing what is being said about a company or brand on the internet) to quickly influence their product offerings and promote products that are successful. As a result of this shift, Crocs has seen record breaking growth, with sales growing by 64% in 2021.
