PAID SUBSCRIBER UPDATE: I have included the earnings results from all major earnings the day prior & color coded them for easy review in the paid section below. As I can’t find anything worthy of the buy list (I am very risk adverse when it comes to my stock choices in this market), I need to find ways to consistently bring value to my paid subscribers. Remember that the options premium is seriously beefed up around earnings time & those deep in the money covered calls tutorials I’ve been listing in the paid section should benefit from the chaos.

HOUSING DATA TODAY: I’m starting to hate this industry for all the mixed signals its sending. On one hand mortgages are down. On the other, housing starts continue to rise. One explanation is that there is a lot of home investment, whereas big money is paying cash for homes & renting them out. Another explanation is that there is a housing shortage, & the amount of mortgages underwritten today is less but keeping up with new home demand (Existing home sales are indeed flat). In truth, its a little bit of both. Either way the cost of home ownership continues to increase.

One thing is for sure though, the higher the Fed increases interest rates the less people will be incentivized to take on new mortgages. Yet due to the housing shortage it remains to be seen if rate hikes will be enough to cool off the housing market. It seems as though for each new home built there is a willing buyer. Housing data has further implication’s as well. The price of lumber, in particular, is widely speculated on through the housing industry. Moreover an increase in the price of homes usually means an increase in the price of rent … particularly as inflation bites. As the weather turns favorable it will be interesting to see where the housing industry leads.
