Who has better odds of winning the lottery?

The person who buys one ticket every month? Or the person who buys one ticket every day?

Don't give me a clever comeback with statistical facts. I suck at maths, bear with me 😅

The more you buy, the higher your chances.

Well, the same happens with content creation.

To win the content lottery —whatever that means to you (followers, leads, etc)— you need to play every day.

Meaning you need to publish every day.

Content platforms like Twitter or Instagram reward consistency.

This is because they run on a thing —you may have heard of— called the algorithm. The algorithm is a very clever "machine" whose only mission is to keep people IN the platform.

How?

They feed them interesting content.

And who gives the algorithm that content?

I do.

You do.

We, the creators, do.

We are part of this machine that gets people hooked on the platform.

But how can we make sure the algorithm favors our content?

You guessed it: 

By buying lottery tickets (aka publishing every day).

But there's a big difference between real-life lottery and algorithm lottery.

In real life, you need to PAY for the lottery tickets.

In content platforms, buying a ticket is FREE.

But the best part is, in real life, your odds of winning the lottery are the same every day you buy a ticket.

In content platforms, the more you publish, the higher your chances.

The odds stack.

I love this format because it's so visual. This is how you use emojis in context.

What Amanda does is brilliant.

She starts by stating something the audience might feel (gross to build a following).

She challenges that idea, saying that the audience is a little off (it isn't this, it is that). And explains why (let's take a different look).

The emojis are used to reinforce the message and the transformation she wants the audience to undergo (forbidden sign and checkmarks, red vs green).

But what if we looked at it differently?

If you are just starting out, there is one thing you probably lack: credibility.

Even if you're an expert in one area, it's hard for people to trust you if they don't know you.

There are a few ways to earn that trust. Most common: consistently create content about that topic until you are recognized as an expert.

Today I would like to share with you one growth idea to accelerate that process.

I call it “Help in public”. The basics are very simple. Offer to help people with one specific thing. But do it in public.

An example:

Brett is known for his productized design business. 

To demonstrate his expertise, he offered people who replied to his tweet advice on how to productize their skills.

Simple. But it worked.

He got 481 replies to that tweet and 691. Plus, he gets to showcase in public his expertise on the matter.

I've tried this a few times, and I've always got positive results. 

I did this very early on in my journey, but on IndieHackers instead of Twitter.

There were over 60 responses to the thread, which was on the main page for almost a day. 

I got a few Twitter followers and a couple of direct messages asking for more information about my services.

As long as your intent is positive, I believe it's a great way to get your name out there.
