[Crew Review] FBA fees increase in Canada—Is US next?

Hikes

Both Canadian and US Amazon sellers will welcome Q3 with fee increases. Starting June 30, sellers from the Great White North will face an 8 to 30% FBA fee hike, depending on the size tier. Meanwhile, NARF fees are also set to increase on the same day.

How much more are you required to pay?

Amazon Top Movers

We’re looking back in time to find out which Amazon keywords had a drastic increase in search volume from May 15th to 28th. So let’s find out which terms have been topping the list this past two weeks!

Taking the number 7 slot in today’s top 10 is “catrice foundation.” This product started doing the rounds on TikTok and it didn't take long for other TikTok users to jump on the hype. Believe it or not, products related to this term have already sold 1,647 units per day in the last few days.

Speaking of TikTok, it’s now crucial for ecommerce businesses to maintain a strong presence online. If you’re looking to revamp your social media strategy, check out the Top 5 Social Media Management Software for Sellers in 2022.

Is Congress Discriminating Against Amazon?

The Everything Store is decrying a proposed legislation by Senator Any Klobuchar for being unfair to five of the biggest companies in the United States, including Google, Apple, and Amazon.

The bill, according to Amazon Vice President of Public Policy Brian Huseman, would in effect mandate the company to allow other logistics providers to fulfill Prime orders. In a post, Huseman reminds that Amazon had attempted this before, but none of the third-party logistics providers can consistently meet the timeframes of Prime. The post also explains how the bill can potentially hurt not only Amazon but also American consumers and its hundreds of thousands of US selling partners that use FBA.

Earlier today, sellers received an email urging recipients to oppose the bill, with the same tenor as the one they sent last year.

According to the parameters set by the bill, Amazon is the only US retailer affected. The regulation applies only to companies with a market value of at least $550 billion. As of writing, other big retailers such as Walmart ($345.55 billion), Target ($72.57 billion), and CVS ($126.59 billion) do not meet the requirements despite having bigger annual revenues in 2021. Because of this, Amazon believes that the bill intentionally targets it and other Big Tech companies that have “vastly different business models.”

The biggest and richest corporations in the country have been under more scrutiny since Biden’s election as President. Last month, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos responded to the President’s tweet about tying inflation to corporate taxes, calling it a “misdirection.”

Will This Replace TikTok?

If you’re an ecommerce business owner, you might want to instruct your social media managers to focus a little more on the latest app Gen Zers are raving about. BeReal, a French app founded in 2020, ranked fourth in social networking this week on iOS.

It reached more than 10 million downloads in Q1 this year, of which more than 2.6 million are from the United States. It’s currently valued at around $600 million, and it’s looking very promising among the younger generation.

BeReal encourages users to capture candid moments by giving them only 2 minutes after they are notified to post a picture on the platform, which is at random times of the day. So whether you’re on your dream vacation or taking a dump, the app can ask for a photo.

If the trend continues, BeReal could be the next app your potential customers will spend the most time in. It’s not yet clear how it will integrate ecommerce into the platform, but it’s best to keep up with the latest just in case it blows up.

Etc.

Air courier. After years of testing, Walmart is launching a same-day drone delivery service in six US states.

College2Career. Walmart isn’t only launching drones. It’s also going to help launch graduating students and fresh college grads into new career opportunities.

Walk out. Amazon workers in Bellmawr, Camden County, walk out of the job to protest warehouse closure.
