Sticky Notes - Papa is waiting.

I'M NO HEMINGWAY –– BUT YOU COULD BE.
TL;DR...

The latest lesson in How to write words that sell like a Florida Snow Cone Vendor on the hottest day of the year isn't taught by me but by Ernest Hemingway. Or, by "Papa" as he was so often called. If you've already purchased the guide, just log back in and look for the above GIF accompanied by the headline "A century-old guest lecture from the one and only, Ernest Hemingway." If you haven't purchased it, you can change that here. Or, at the black button at the very bottom of this email.

The Whole Story...

As you've probably gathered, I adore Ernest Hemingway. So much so, that a month back I was considering doing a full-blown course on the writer who changed American literature forever.

However, after some brief reflection, I instead decided to do a pop-up "guest lecture" with the Maestro and just throw it in as a complementary addition to
How to write words that sell like a Florida Snow Cone Vendor on the hottest day of the year

The lessons were pulled from a lesser-known book whose title I will divulge within the actual guide itself. But, without giving too much away, Hemingway was known to have only one "apprentice" throughout his life and, fortunately for all of us, this individual decided to write down the lessons he was taught.

My favorite of the dozen lessons I gleaned was... "Never play God".

At one point in the manuscript, Hemingway went on a long rant after he caught his apprentice judging a stranger and making several rude comments about him.

Hemingway chimed in and said, "You're not God and you never judge a man. You present him as he is and you let the reader judge."

Reading it now, it's obvious that Hemingway wasn't just talking about writing but an individual's character. I think our society, now more than ever, would find themselves better for sitting and chewing on these words for an afternoon.

We're so goddamn quick to judge people based on who we think they are rather than who they really are. But, we should stop playing God. We should overcome our urge to judge someone as "good" or bad". We should attempt to see them as they are, not as we want them to be.

All that said, if you've already purchased the guide, just log back in and look for the above GIF accompanied by the headline "A century-old guest lecture from the one and only, Ernest Hemingway." However, if you haven't purchased it, you can change that here. Or, at the black button down below.

Cheers,

Cole

P.S. Keep an eye on your inbox, I'll be writing you again tomorrow.
