What should you do when your new job turns out to be a nightmare?

Many Americans who jumped ship have encountered bait-and-switch situations where a new employer’s promises, such as a flexible work from home policy, are very different from the reality of the new position.

If you find yourself in this sticky situation, don’t fear jumping back into the job market—a recent survey by the Muse found that 80% of respondents agree that it’s okay to leave a mismatched job within six months of starting.

But how should you manage parting ways with the employer, and what do you tell potential employers about the short stint on your resume?

Include the short experience on your CV—and when the question comes up as to why you left, be honest. Tell a potential employer that your expectations weren’t being met, and that moving on was the best decision to help you find a working environment suited toward your needs.
