Drive Website Traffic Through Social Media Trends

We all know social media is great for spreading brand awareness and growing a following. You can participate in the latest challenge, use a recent TikTok sound, or get your CEO to dance along with the latest trend.

However, TikTok can also be used to drive traffic and sales to your website by boosting search engine results. For example — In early 2021 a mochi ice cream TikTok trend caught on and one small ice cream shop in the UK benefited with a whopping 2,000% increase in sales.

Let’s take a look at a few ways we can leverage social media trends to improve SEO…

✅ Track the Trending Content and Make Something Similar

A great way to stay on top of trending content is simply using TikToks own Creative Center. Believe it or not TikTok makes all of their trending data public and searchable. You can even see hashtag ranks and the creators that have used them.

Once you identify a trend that suits your brand account style, simply put your own spin on the trend and hit publish! Don’t forget to include the trending hashtag in your description.

Not only will this help grow your account on TikTok, it will also help drive website traffic right off of the platform. Not bad.

✅ Create Written Blogs Around Trending Topics

Next, copy the same discovery process as above but instead of creating TikTok content you are using it as inspiration for written articles and blogs. This won’t always be relevant to your product or brand. BUT if you can somehow tie in TikTok trends to your story or topic then you stand a better chance of driving traffic off of the trending keywords.

Obviously we don’t just want to drive traffic. We want sales. So be sure to keep the articles relevant to your business and target customer.

✅ Leverage Creators to Increase Demand

Last but not least, work with creators and UGC for exponential reach. Let’s say there is a trend that is PERFECT for your brand. You want to make the most of the moment but you don’t have the reach on your account to make a meaningful splash…

This could be a great opportunity to work directly with Creators to produce the trending content for you and generate the reach you want. This creator partnerships method is how the “PopSocket” brand was able to reach over two million viewers with a campaign that combined their product placement and an “Emoji Dress Up Challenge” trend on TikTok.

Just be sure to define your objectives, CTA, and target audience before you partner up with Creators. The more you can be specific about your goals and leave the creativity to them the better!

Social media trends and influencer marketing are highly effective marketing tools that brands of all sizes can use right now to boost brand awareness, search results, and sales.
