1) The FTSE Russell Indexes completed their annual rebalance this week and seven space stocks joined the ranks. 
  • Russell 3000 additions include: Astra ($ASTR), Momentus ($MNTS), Planet ($PL), Redwire ($RDW), Rocket Lab ($RKLB), Spire ($SPIR) and Terran Orbital ($LLAP).
     
    • Satellogic ($SATL) and Virgin Orbit ($VORB) were announced to be additions on June 3rd but did not end up making the final cut.
       
  • Russell Microcap additions include: Astra ($ASTR), BlackSky ($BKSY), Momentus ($MNTS), Redwire ($RDW), Spire ($SPIR) and Terran Orbital ($LLAP).
2) Relativity Space announced a multi-year, multi-launch Launch Services Agreement with OneWeb.
  • Relativity will launch their LEO satellites starting in 2025. This agreement marks the fifth multi-launch customer secured by Relativity totaling $1.2B+ in backlog. The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
3) Inmarsat released a 20,000 person survey covering 11 countries to dive deeper into question "what is the value of space?"
  • While we cannot cover all the findings of the 50 page document here, the survey suggests that perceptions of space are shaped more by popular culture and less about the role space plays in today’s economy. 
     
    • Findings show 21% of people associate space with ‘aliens’ and 10% with ‘Star Wars’ vs. 8% who do for ‘communications & connectivity’ and 3% for ‘broadcasting & television’.
       
  • "The most significant insight from this research is that people across the world are largely unaware of the true value of space: neither its current significance nor the value it holds for future generations."

Exspace Raises $236.8M Series B Round (SpaceNews)
The Chinese state-owned small satellite launch provider announced the funding formally in a ceremony with Wuhan regional officials. Exspace is a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC).

Venture Orbital Raises €10M Series A Round (Company)
The French launch startup has rebranded itself to "Latitude" and the capital will be used to accelerate the development of their Navier rocket engine. The round was led by Crédit Mutuel Innovation and Expansion with participation from BPI, Comat, Nicomatic and ADF.

Airbus Awarded €160M ESA Contract (Company)
The FORUM (Far-infrared Outgoing Radiation Understanding and Monitoring) Earth monitoring satellite contract will measure heat emitted from the Earth into space and is due to launch in 2027.

📊 Chart of the Week

June is officially in the books. Sidus ($SIDU) surged +79.4% while Astra ($ASTR) fell -50.8%. Following a bullish May, space stocks have returned to the 2022 trend of heading lower. Here's to hoping July can turn things around..
