3.6 million people are projected to fly this weekend, per AAA and I am flying back to San Francisco today!
I had a wonderful time in London this past week!  The weather is warm (and wonderful) but the mood for most local investors is unfortunately lukewarm with Brexit, inflation, Russia sanctions and more.

Here's 5 great reads for this week:

  • 📰 Our Fund II News   - Race Capital raised $180M for its Fund II focusing on pre-seed to Series A investments in infrastructure startups.  I want to thank Sequoia Ecosystem Fund, Greylock Partners, Marc Andreessen, Eric Yuan, Anatoly Yakovenko, Raj Gokal, FTX, USF and many more for your support.  Read more
  • 📺 What else does Sam Bankman-Fried have up his sleeve?  My partner Chris McCann is on CNBC!
  • 💰 Congrats to Opaque Systems (a Race portfolio company) for raising $22M Series A - Raluca, Ion (founder of Databricks), Rishabh Poddar, Wenting Zheng and Chester Leung turned MC2 (Multiparty Collaboration and Competition) open source project into Opaque Systems focusing on confidential computing protects data by performing computation in a hardware-based component called a trusted execution environment (TEE).  Super interesting technology and I am very thankful we got the opportunity to invest and support this team.
  • 🪨 Startup valuation is dropping like a rock  - A 30% haircut right now is what we’re seeing per WSJ.   For seed/pre-seed, we are seeding anywhere from 30-50% and some VCs  are backing out of a signed term sheet and pushing valuation further down. This is not cool, but it is happening.
  • 🏦 Amazon is going after fintech without even applying to be a conventional bank. Good analysis by CBinsights.

This week a total of 17 startups raised $592.9M in funding, 2 M&As:

  • $132.8M goes to 7 Enterprise startups
  • $100M goes to 1 HRTech startup
  • $40M goes to 1 eCommerce startup
  • $130M goes to 1 Environmental startup
  • $17.9M goes to 2 Industrial startups
  • $40M goes to 1 FoodTech startup
  • $85.2M goes to 3 Healthcare startups
  • $47M goes to 1 BioTech startup
