Not a Newsletter - Welcome to the new Inbox Collective

I’ve got some news.

I’m excited to announce that I’m going to be publishing more — a lot more! — to help you figure out how to build your best email strategy.

Not a Newsletter isn’t going anywhere. It’ll remain a Google Doc, published monthly. (The next issue will be out in a week or so.)

But inboxcollective.com is becoming a real website, where I’m going to be publishing original stories designed to help you get better at sending newsletters. A few things you need to know:
  • We’ll be publishing 3-4 times per month, with a mix of how-tos, feature stories, case studies, and more. (Scroll down to find links to the stories we’ve published today!)
  • You’ll see bylines from others in the email world — and we’d love you to pitch us on your story ideas! Maybe you’ve got a personal newsletter success story you want to share with the world, or maybe you want to write a story about someone else’s newsletter. Whatever the idea, we’d love to hear from you — if you’ve got a pitch, hit reply to this email and send it our way.
  • And yes, we’ll pay you to contribute to the site! Pay is $450 for shorter pieces, $750 for longer, more complicated stories.
  • I’m using the royal “we” here because the stories on inboxcollective.com are being brought to you by a team larger than just me! Special thanks to Alex Hazlett, who’s been an amazing collaborator and editor on this project, and a huge reason why we’re actually launching this site today.
  • We’re also able to launch — and pay for writers to contribute! — thanks to the generous support of several sponsors. I want to thank Selzy, an easy-to-use email marketing platform, and Who Sponsors Stuff, a tool to help you find relevant sponsors for your newsletter, for coming aboard as launch sponsors of the new site!
Everything we publish will be free and open to all. My goal has been to help as many people as I can in the email space, and I hope this new site advances that mission a little bit further.

(Oh, and just because I’ll be publishing more doesn’t mean that I’ll be emailing you more. My plan is to send four additional emails a year, one at the start of every quarter, to highlight recent stories and our new sponsors. Otherwise, if you’re on this mailing list, you’ll only get a monthly email about the new Not a Newsletter. I’ll make sure to link to our recent pieces there.)

OK, so enough of the behind-the-scenes stuff! Let’s highlight some of the stories live on site today: And we’ll have additional stories coming later this month! This is just the start.

The brand-new site is available here. I hope you learn a few new things that are going to help you send better emails this month.
