Dem says Manchin blocking energy, tax provisions in big bill.
Associated Press (Center) • Factual Grade 75% • 4 min read

Biden and congressional Democrats are hoping to enact a roughly $1 trillion version of the $2 trillion bill that Sen. Manchin killed in December, before the November elections. Using special budget rules, Democrats can push a package through the 50-50 Senate if they are solidly united.
    ...
In talks with Senate Majority Leader Schumer that have lasted months, Manchin had previously expressed support for energy and climate language and for raising levies on high-earners and big companies. Manchin signaled unease on Wednesday, saying the latest inflation figures left him feeling “more cautious than I’ve ever been.”
    ...
Manchin told Schumer on Thursday that he will only support a new measure if it is limited to curbing pharmaceutical prices and extending federal subsidies for buying health care coverage. Provisions Democrats have already agreed to for curbing prescription drug costs — like letting Medicare negotiate prices for pharmaceuticals it buys — [are estimated] to save $288 billion over the coming decade.

Would you prefer streaming services be paid without ads or free with ads?

Context: Netflix partners with Microsoft to deploy an ad-supported plan.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Paid - We pay for Prime, Netflix and Disney Plus. Network and cable have always used ads, and they put out mediocre content. When we [transitioned] to streaming almost exclusively 10 years ago, network TV was only putting out reality shows. I don't want advertisers dictating what shows are on. If streamers stop putting out good content I can cancel my subscription.

Free - I think there should be both options, but the free option, which currently doesn’t exist, should be an option if it is economically feasible for the streaming service. As a consumer, I feel like I’m g...

Unsure - I think both plans should be options. There should be a free plan that is ad-supported, but...
