Brian Casel - SaaS affiliate programs. Worth it?

Last week we launched the ZipMessage affiliate program, where you can earn recurring commissions for any customer you refer, for as long as they remain a customer!

I never had much success with affiliate programs in my previous businesses, and found they were often a distraction.  So I pushed it off for a while with ZipMessage.

This month I finally got around to it.  Will the affiliate program be different this time?

Maybe? 

Most of ZipMessage's success so far has come via recommendations and sharing ZipMessages ("ZM"s) with people.  Up until now, these have come organically.

Now we're making a more active effort to form relationships with people who reach many of our ideal customers—coaches, consultants, and remote teams.  With the help of our growing team, we're building processes for outreach and partnership content.

The affiliate program should help with that.  Especially since it pays recurring monthly commissions.  One day after launching it, we had our first referral commissions in the books!
