Let’s call it… war!

For Star Wars fans, the latest Andor trailer is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's the Rebel spy thriller we’ve always wanted and features the return of fan-favorite Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). But Disney also took the opportunity to push the show’s premiere from August 31 to September 21. We’re not sure why, but we have a feeling it’s got something to do with having too much overlap with another Disney+ series.

Meanwhile, in our own galaxy, scientists discovered the teeth of what may be an ancient European panda, and we're also reflecting on the life and death of Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek’s Uhura), who changed sci-fi history in both iconic and subtle ways.

Remembering Nichelle Nichols

The incomparable actress, singer, mother, and activist Nichelle Nichols passed away at the age of 89 on July 30, 2022. Her legacy will largely be centered on two facts:

1.) Starting in 1966, as Uhura in Star Trek, she was the first Black woman in a major role in a mainstream science fiction TV series.

2.) In 1977, she conceived and led a major recruitment drive for NASA, which resulted in the first Black and female astronauts in the American space program.
