Schools are facing an ongoing shortage of teachers, which was an issue before Covid-19 but now poses particularly dire consequences for students. The intermittent shifts to remote and hybrid learning took a toll on students' development. The Biden administration estimated that many are now 2-4 months behind in key subjects.

In a number of states like California and Missouri, some districts have shortened school weeks from five days to four days. Close to 120 of Missouri's school districts [about 23% of school districts in the state] have transitioned to four-day school weeks over the last decade.

In July, the White House urged local districts "to leverage American Rescue Plan funds to [...] to help students make up for lost learning time," noting the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan included $122 billion for schools. Should businesses be restricted from holding racial sensitivity trainings?

520 votes, 62 comments

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - First, I profoundly disagree with racial sensitivity trainings. Second, they do not remotely rise to the level of the sort of thing that the government can regulate when it comes to business administration. For better or for worse, in the United States corporations have broad leeway and that includes trainings of pretty much any sort.

Yes - Of course there should be training to prevent harassment, be it sexual/race/orientation/etc. [...] But presuming you are speaking of laws like Florida's, the idea of indoctrination of very challengeable...

Unsure - Businesses should be allowe...
