Fauci to step down in December after decades of public service.
NPR (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 78% • 7 min read

As of December, he will leave the position he's held for 38 years as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Fauci, 81, served under seven U.S. presidents.
    ...
His approach to engaging AIDS activists [who were demanding not only answers but a rapid federal response] also transformed the way patients and activists interacted with medical science for many diseases. Fauci was also instrumental in an effort, undertaken by the George W. Bush administration, to make AIDS medicines available globally. The multi-billion-dollar program has saved millions of lives, primarily in Africa.
    ...
Fauci made some missteps during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Fauci initially misjudged the degree to which the virus spread from people who had no symptoms. He quickly changed his view as scientists learned more. Like many scientists, he was also uncertain about the value of masks early on. But he never wavered in his view that people needed to stop gathering in large numbers, and isolate if ill.

Context: US Education secretary asks school districts to use federal funds to allay teacher shortages.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - They should just pay teachers a living wage and then they will find that there will be a lot more candidates who choose teaching as a career. In Germany, teachers have to meet a high qualification (competitive program, ~5 year degree), but teaching is a career which pays a lot of money (one of the best paid careers), and therefore there is no teacher shortage and it is actually difficult to get accepted into a teaching program because you have to prove academic excellence.
