Departures: Travel & Lifestyle - ✈️ Mid Summer Travel Update.
👨✈️ The Briefing Room:Notes and open topics from the editor’s desk. For those of us who hang out in the Northern Hemisphere, the days of laying in the sand tanning with tropical beverage on hand are almost over. It has been a very busy summer and I’ve spent a good portion of it traveling between North America, the Caribbean and Europe. Even though I’ve been off the grid for the most part, I have actively been working behind the scenes on what’s to come for next season and I am very exited to let you know that production of the first episodes of the “Departures: On Air” podcast have begun, along with its corresponding video channel. As some of you that follow me on social might know, last spring I completed my move out of Southeast Asia and relocated to Europe. In the interest of consolidating everything I’ve had for years scattered in different parts of the world, I’ve taken up lease of a brand new space where I can have a base to produce content and run the rest of my operation from. This will be quite the change from my pre-Covid workflow, but at this stage is what makes the most sense as China still remains essentially closed to foreigners and a large portion of the business I used to do out that way has moved online. So here’s a little preview of my big project for the next few months. It will definitely continue to be a slow process as I juggle between the small pockets of time around my travels and shooting schedule. Before I leave though, I need to thank every single one of you for your support. Non of this would be possible without it. I’m about to head into one of my busiest times of the year and will remain mostly offline, but stay tuned for what’s to come as I go back to the regular publishing schedule in the fall. 💰 Deal of the Week:Special sales and offers from all over the web. This deal is mostly an addendum to the last edition of Departures, How-To: Fly to Europe for Under $200. As I was looking for a flight to Miami out of Brussels, I found another long haul ultra low cost carrier for the transatlantic route that I think is very much worth mentioning and adding to the other 3 carriers listed in the previous article from June. I went back and updated that post, but for those who already read it, here is the relevant information: TUI Airways Formerly known as Thompson Fly, the UK based airline can trace its humble origins to the 1960’s. In its current form, it operates a fleet of 72 aircraft and is currently the worlds largest charter airline. As a charter airline, their routes are seasonal and change throughout the year. They also do not fly all routes every day. So it’s always important to cross check you dates in advance as they only offer a limited number of flights. As you can imagine, because of their aggressive pricing flights can sell out fast. One of the very unique perks of TUI is their “Last Minute” offers. Where most airlines will tend to increase their prices the closer it gets to the flight date, TUI publishes a list of last minute deals on their website that are perfect for those spur of the moment getaways. As I kept browsing around for flights during the few days I was doing my flight search, I found I got best results through the TUI Fly mobile app. But to give you an idea, as I am updating this article on Wednesday, August 25th 2022, there are 2 Last minute flights from Brussels to Miami for this coming Saturday, August 27th and Tuesday, August 30th for €179 and €199 respectively. One more very particular quirk of TUI is they are one of the very few carriers that will only allow x1 piece of carry-on per passenger with no option to purchase a second one and no personal item allowance. So be very mindful of this when booking and packing. via tuifly.be 🛫 About Us:Departures is a free newsletter about photography, travel & lifestyle.
