This year, five men, each alone in the dark at night or early in the morning, were killed between July 8 and Sept. 27 in Stockton [a city of more than 300,000 people]. None of the men were robbed, and police said the cases do not seem to be connected to drugs or gang violence. The concerns about a potential serial killer grew on Monday, when authorities confirmed that two cases from April 2021 were linked to the five homicides.
    ...
Of the seven people who were shot, five were of Hispanic descent, but [Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden] said Tuesday that a motive was unclear. Last week, authorities cautioned residents to be vigilant, avoid traveling alone and stay in well-lit areas of the city.
    ...
As of Tuesday, police have not found any witnesses in the Stockton killings. Investigators have reviewed hundreds of hours of video, [McFadden] said, but none of the shootings were caught on camera. McFadden said that this series of homicides is “abnormal” for Stockton. Thus far in 2022, 43 homicides have been recorded in the city — up from 32 this time last year.

Should the US commit to sanctions relief to bring North Korea to the negotiating table?

Context: North Korea tests missile over Japan for first time in five years.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - It is a continuous cycle with North Korea that goes back to Mini-Kim's dad and grandfather. They amp it up when they want something, and we change sanctions to get them to the table to amp it down. Lather rinse repeat. Negotiation with that hermit kingdom is ineffective until there is a true regime change and that family no longer runs things. That can only happen from within, so the best we can do is set conditions where the risk taken with a regime change from within becomes worth taking.

Yes - Sanctions haven't worked, and we know that because of the fact that N Korea has increased missile tests and has continued to pursue a nuke. Why wouldn't they? Gaddafi gave up nukes and then got bayonetted yea...
