Effective Friday, October 14, Our Human Family will return to Medium. Technically, the original Our Human Family publication never left and still contains a wide range of excellent essays. We simply stopped publishing there.

Occasionally, we will post announcements here—like the one about our upcoming OHF Magazine Issue No. 3—but our primary means of publishing will be via Medium. All subscriptions will be canceled effective immediately.

Thank you for joining us on our journey as an independent publication over the past year and a half. This is a painful decision to make. Unfortunately, the subscription model, the man-hours required to produce a quality weekly newsletter (way more than you’d imagine as opposed to publishing via Medium) coupled with the challenge of finding writers willing to essentially write for “free” (an idea we have always detested), and the limited exposure of OHF Weekly as an indie publication have proved to be unsustainable without the funds to pay our writers even a modest amount for their work.

Our mission is to advocate for racial equity, allyship, and inclusion via an ever-increasing readership. With the combined readership of both editors’ Medium accounts and the Our Human Family account, we have access to several thousands more readers. It simply makes sense for us to make this move.

For those of you who knew us from Medium and those who happened upon us by chance, you guys are the best. We hope the articles we’ve presented have broadened your view of the world and inspired you in new ways to end oppression and support equality.
