It has launched a crowdfunding campaign to get its devices out to people willing to try out the tech and start building the network. A bold effort to cure HIV—using Crispr (7 minute read)

Scientists will soon see the results of an experimental HIV treatment that uses CRISPR technology. The treatment is a one-time infusion that takes an hour to administer. It targets regions in the HIV genome important for viral replication. A man with HIV received the treatment in July. He will soon stop taking his antiretroviral drugs to see if the treatment was a success.

There are many ways of grouping red blood cells based on the differences in their antigens. Ten new blood classification systems have been described by researchers over the last decade. 12,000 Facebook employees, 15% of its workforce, may lose jobs amid 'quiet layoffs' (2 minute read)

Meta is in the process of executing quiet layoffs for underperforming workers. The job cuts may affect around 12,000 employees, about 15% of its workforce. Affected staff will have 30 to 60 days to find a new role within the company. Meta announced a hiring freeze earlier this year along with plans to reduce its headcount.

TikTok Parent ByteDance Sees Losses Swell in Push for Growth (7 minute read)

ByteDance's operating losses tripled to above $7 billion last year. It produced an operating profit in the first quarter of 2022. The company has halted plans to go public and it is offering to buy back shares from investors. Its total assets were at $74 billion in March. ByteDance recently issued restricted stock units to more than 30,000 of its employees.
