Why has a bill to standardize daylight saving time been stalled in Congress?

Time is running out for House to pass permanent daylight saving bill.
The Hill (Center) • Factual Grade 75% • 5 min read

In March, the Senate approved the Sunshine Protection Act by unanimous consent, a procedure that allows bills to pass if all members are on board and no objections are made. The legislation, which has bipartisan sponsorship in both chambers, would do away with the biannual changing of the clocks and make daylight saving time the law of the land all year.
    ...
But there are disagreements about what the law of the land should be: daylight saving time or standard time. That, in part, is holding the House back from advancing the [bill]. “These opinions don’t break down by party, but instead by region,” [said Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.), the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee].
    ...
“I have received calls from constituents who prefer permanent standard time because they have safety concerns for children who have to wait too long in the dark during winter for the school bus, and I have heard from constituents who prefer permanent daylight saving time because they prefer longer daylight hours,” said Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.).

Should some psychedelics be decriminalized?

392 votes, 38 comments

Context: New study shows therapeutic potential for a psychedelic in treating depression.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - I believe most (if not all) psychedelics should be decriminalized, not just some. The war on drugs has entirely hamstrung any research into psychedelic drug therapies, which were already showing promise 50+ years ago. Not to mention the basis for making them illegal was largely due to fear-mongering and lack of understanding around how they work.

No - I am not in favor of decriminalizing anything that impairs judgement and can result in harm to others. I’m tired of seeing how d...
