Stolen $3bn Bitcoin mystery ends with popcorn tin discovery.
BBC (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 72% • 2 min read

The stash of 50,676 Bitcoin was found hidden on various devices in a hacker's home in an underfloor safe and inside a popcorn tin. James Zhong has pleaded guilty to hacking the funds in 2012 from the illegal Silk Road marketplace. Police say Mr. Zhong was able to steal the funds from the Silk Road by exploiting a flaw in the website's payment system.
    ...
The darknet is a part of the internet that can only be accessed using specialist software. In 2015 the Silk Road's founder was unanimously convicted of running it by a jury and sentenced to life in prison. Lawyer Damian Williams said police used cryptocurrency tracing techniques [to find Mr. Zhong's Bitcoin]. "For 10 years, the whereabouts of this massive chunk of missing Bitcoin had ballooned into a $3.3bn mystery," he said.
    ...
The police raid at Mr. Zhong's Georgia home was carried out a year ago but only revealed now. US authorities say the seizure is the second largest in history. It came at the same time as Bitcoin's value peaked - the seized funds would now be worth about $1.1bn.

Should daylight saving time be made permanent?

594 votes, 72 comments

Context: Bill to make daylight saving time permanent stalls in House.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Yes, we should switch to permanent daylight savings time. Seasonal affective disorder is real, and having it already dark outside by the time most people get off of work is depressing. It is also found that more accidents happen in the dark while commuting home. I understand the concern about school children in the mornings, but that seems like a simple solution. Instead of having the entire country switch twice a year, just have schools adjust their schedule twice a year. Problem solved. Everybody wins - we get extra daylight and the kids are safe at bus stops.
