The violence erupted near a parking garage just after 10:15 p.m. Sunday as a charter bus full of students returned to Charlottesville from seeing a play in Washington. University President Jim Ryan said authorities did not have a “full understanding” of the motive or circumstances of the shooting. Two [other] students were wounded and hospitalized.
    ...
Police searched for the gunman through the night [in a 12-hour lockdown]. [The suspect, a 22-year-old UVA student] was taken into custody without incident [Monday morning], police said. He had once been on the football team, but he had not been part of the team for at least a year.
    ...
[The suspect] came to the attention of the university this fall after a person reported a remark he apparently made about possessing a gun. No threat was reported in conjunction with the concern about the weapon. Elsewhere, police in Moscow, Idaho, were investigating the deaths of four University of Idaho students found in a home near the campus.

Does red states' bussing of migrants to sanctuary cities encourage illegal migration?

398 votes, 58 comments

Context: Former Border chief recently blamed Republican governors' bussing of migrants for illegal migration.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - Whether or not they are bussed anywhere is so far down the list of concerns for those illegally entering the country that it will not change the decision of whether or not to immigrate. What may alter the likelihood of immigration is if bussing immigrants to cities who openly encourage immigration causes them to experience the resource strain that border states have always been forced to deal with, and causes them to change their attitudes toward border security.
