My Take

This past Thursday, here in the United States, was Thanksgiving. A day of family, food, more food, and hopefully giving thanks for all that we have. I was lucky enough to spend lunch with my mom and stepdad with my wife and kiddo. It was small and way too much food. But it was great spending time with them. Then we went to my in-laws and that was a good chaos. We brought our 60lb labradoodle with us so that was an adventure. It was a great time.

I feel very fortunate that I have such a great family and support structure. This year has been tight financially with my wife out of work, but with help from family we've been able to make things work. The support structure we have is amazing. I know not everyone has a family like we do, so I'm extra thankful

• WP Mayor Turns 12!
  WP Mayor is a great blog/site all about WordPress, the opensource project. They hit a big milestone turning 12 years on Friday. That's a huge milestone as most blogs don't last that long. It's a really good site for information on WordPress and tutorials. Check it out.
• Elon Musk Outlines New, Alternate Color Checkmarks to Clarify Verification
  This fiasco that is Twitter, is definitely entertaining to watch, though somewhat painful for those who had a great time on the site since the beginning. Fediverse anyone?
• Tumblr to add support for ActivityPub, the social protocol powering Mastodon and other apps
  This is big news, because it makes the opensource fediverse that much stronger. Automattic, the owners of Tumblr, also help manage the WordPress opensource project, which already interoperates with the fediverse. So, this is great news.
• Be like Gmail? Proton Mail will soon offer email categorization, message scheduling, and more
  I've been an early supporter of Proton Mail and their whole ecosystem. I'm on the visionary plan and happy to support this alternative to Google's suite of services. Full disclosure I still use Google Workplace too. Don't judge. 😜
• Meta Adds New Tools and Settings to Protect Young Users from Online Predators
  This is great news, but why is it only being added now?
• Shopify is testing a new universal search feature
  For being very much in the WordPress ecosystem, Shopify is a pretty slick ecommerce system. The news that they want to get into universal search for their netwrk of stores could be really amazing.
• Link juice: Is it the new snake oil of Google SEO?
  Links still carry weight, but Google is getting smarter with looking at the overall page content for context as well. This is a good post about the history of Link Juice and whether it's snake oil or still valuable.
• Google Can Now Crawl From Outside The US
  This is pretty big news and will help the index as a whole.
• Census Bureau disputes Inspector General claim that hacking team gained unauthorized access
  Cyberspace is the new battlefield. It's no longer the battlefield of the future, the future is here now. Just be aware of where you click.
• Elon Musk Outlines Roadmap for ‘Twitter 2.0’ in New Slide Deck
  Ugh, more news from the Twitter-hell-scape.
