Boring and unpopular businesses making millions

In business, boring often means profitable. And that’s something you should always look for.

Do you see a niche or a type of business mentioned often on Twitter, Techcrunch, or Reddit? Stay away from it.

Trendy and popular spaces attract a higher volume of competitors, making everything more expensive (ads, salaries, marketing).

We’ve put together a list of boring businesses you can start and have huge money-making potential. In most cases, these businesses have relatively low starting costs, can be started in your spare time and/or from home.

Clean houses – $1.5M/year

If you are looking for a quick way to earn money, consider starting your home cleaning business.

Office-going people or parents with kids to look after do not have the time to clean their houses. Others are just messy and lazy and prefer paying for a home cleaning service to keep the house in order.

The best part? You don’t need any particular skills or prior experience. Advertise online, perform tasks, get referrals and build a steady clientele.

Rent storage space – $1.2M/year

Provide secure space for residential and commercial customers. Its demand is experiencing meteoric growth.

According to a report, self-storage facilities generate a profit margin of 41%.

Bonus: generate additional revenue by selling locks, cardboard boxes, packing supplies, insurance, and other products. 

Start a car detailing service – $72K/year

Straight and simple business.

The initial investment is super low. In fact, you don’t even need to buy supplies until you get your first customer.

To get into the market print a bunch of flyers and leave them on people’s windshields.

Hack: make flyers with different rates to see how much can you charge.

Become a real estate agent – $4.2M/year

One of those good old no-nonsense businesses.

People have a problem: they want to sell a house.

You help them. 

Take as much as you can off their plate. Marketing, visits, and contracts. Once you’ve built a good network, you can easily make 6-7 figures per year.

Install home automation systems – $840K/year

Home automation uses sensors to create centrally controlled lighting, home security, and HVAC systems.

But all that technology is already available, you don’t need to develop it. Simply learn how to use it and install it.

Partner with home improvement businesses to get a leg up and gain your first customers.

Start a plumbing business – $480K/year

Pros: doesn’t require significant investment and has low overhead costs. 

Cons: Cleaning waste pipes and unblocking sewer lines is a challenging job. 

No idea about plumbing at all? Use YouTube to learn. 80% of customers will have a similar problem that only requires a quick fix.

Take it to the next level: Become an insurance company partner to unlock thousands of potential customers.

Bones cleaning – $24K/year

Wait, what?

Do you remember those pristine-looking skeletons you see in museums or bright white skulls hanging from walls? Someone cleaned them.

Even though it seems a bit weird, there are tons of potential customers: hunters, anatomy professionals, conservationists, and pet lovers.

Become an interior designer – $1M/year

The global luxury interior design market is growing at a 9% annual rate. The growth metrics show there is great potential for entrepreneurs targeting households.

Start working with family and friends to build a portfolio.

Instagram and Pinterest will be your best friends to spot trends and find inspiration.

On top of your fee, you can make money by getting a percentage from each supplier you buy from.
