When Snap first released its Lenses, it was meant to be a fun, simple way to enhance how you interact with your friends. As expected, the technology has shifted into a tool that brands can leverage to drive sales.

AR experiences highly influence the shopping process which is a win for brands. And consumers are excited that augmented reality can help them make faster decisions (likely resulting in more purchases).

For personal care & beauty, 70% of consumers will purchase more products to try on at home. In fashion, 72% of consumers are more likely to complete purchases online (vs. just adding to cart), and travel consumers are expected to spend more when vacationing since they'll be able to immerse themselves in the location and explore excursions before setting foot on the plane.

TLDR: augmented reality provides more context when shopping which gives consumers confidence in their purchasing decisions.

In 2021, campaigns using an augmented reality lens, in addition to video buys, saw a 32% average incremental lift.

So it only makes sense that Disney is doubling down on its partnership with Snap to use AR to drive interest in the new Avatar film. With a 3D viewing option available, it's set to be released in mid-December.

The Avatar activation includes a custom Snapchat lens that transforms viewers into characters from the film, which was promoted via Instagram by movie star Trinity Bliss.

Disney also partnered with Snap to create an AR mural of Cinderella's castle using park-goers PhotoPass photos and extended the experience using special lenses for the My Disney App experience.

In addition to Disney, American Eagle is doubling down on AR games for its holiday social media strategy by creating festive, virtual storefronts that let users shop. Previous storefronts have generated $2 million in revenue.
