Boutique Consulting Club - Time For Strategy

As a boutique consulting partner or founder, it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and projects that come with leading the firm. But what about strategy?

In a recent survey by Benchpress, 65% of consultancy owners declared they would like to do more strategy - it was the most commonly mentioned activity. When asked what they would like to do less of, the top answers were business administration (64%) and client work (32%).

This means there's no need for me to convince you to make time for strategy - most consultants know its importance and would like to do more of it. But they don't.

What explains that knowledge-action gap? My work with other boutique consultancies has provided plenty of insight, but I'd love to hear from you:

• How much time are you investing in strategy for your consulting practice?
• If you feel like you'd benefit from more thinking time, what's the main issue or obstacle for you to do it now?
• What did you do to help create this issue or obstacle? How have you contributed to creating the situation?
