The Morning Owl - The Last Post of 2022
Another year gone and, as I look back on it, I realize that plenty has happened despite not much happening in my life this year. I finally realized a dream in finally getting published quite a few times this year albeit through a monkey’s paw and having all of those writings be poetry of all things. I’ve gotten healthier physically and mentally and am currently in the best shape of my life somehow. I even got tattooed to commemorate the aforementioned writing. And I even managed to get a bit of writing out onto this public journal of mine, haven’t I? During this time of reflection, I still don’t know how to feel about my accomplishments. A selfish part of me feels indifferent to all of those joyous occasions simply because they’re nothing major as a few people in my life will tell me and a lot more people will force a smile and nod nervously at me. But I want to choose to quietly celebrate them here with you, the reader, because I’m still working out my kinks—one of them being poor verbalization. And if there’s anyone reading within my close circles, I’m sure that you’d all agree that I need to work on that in other parts of my life as well. One of my goals coming into 2022 that I etched onto a little checklist for personal writerly goals, was to keep this newsletter alive. For what it’s worth, I’d like to check that goal off. I still have an interest in scrawling down anything and everything here when I have the time. Another goal that I failed to accomplish this year but made major progress on and one of the major reasons why I had to give up the whole weekly schedule thing here was to finish the first draft to my novel project (a sports drama about esports). That will be carried over into 2023 with a nice 15,000-word head start. There’s a lot that I want to accomplish as I enter the latter half of my 20s. I’ve got a few more new year resolutions that don’t pertain to writing that I’d very much like to see fulfilled. At the very least, I’d like to live a little bit more rather than slip back into thinking that everything around me is slipping away. I’d like to make an active effort to try and enjoy life regularly for once. How that might happen, I’m interested in finding out when the ball drops. Now, before I depart and fly away to do whatever I’ve got to do, I’d like to present a little bit of “creative writing” that I either got published in the past few months or just decided to post up on here because I don’t know what to do with them. Cringe, laugh, and enjoy them. Fuck it, leave a comment below if you feel compelled to do so. And, on that note, I hope that you all enjoyed your holidays and I want to hope that you all have a happy new year—congratulations, we made it through another one. Two Days After SnowfallFirst seen in Jarfly Magazine. Deafened to the world around me, driving through winter rains, I came across a deadened tree and an untouched green patch. Standing frozen on the grass was a lone sparrow, waiting. Carinthia in the SummerFirst seen in Fiery Scribe Review. I can feel your lips upon my cheek, your hands caressing me gently, and my auburn hair adorned with white and lavender daisies. Under the warmth of the breaching sun, I feel free with you, lying close atop and underneath this Tuscan cover in a gold-leaf field divorced from reality where life blooms beneath our feet. Forget me not nor your lover’s kiss so that when we depart from this field the west winds over the calm of Attersee can bear witness to devotion if our intentions are as true as our desires lest this is adoration amiss. Song: “200,000,000-Centimeter-Long-Blades” Artist: Maximum the Hormone English Translation Sources: - Google Translate - Genius - LyricsKPop [Intro] Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil Demon… In the name of devil [Verse] “Kon” <Extremely metal gibberish.> “Kon” <Extremely metal gibberish continues.> [Pre-Chorus] The devil rings out, the devil sings out Praise to the goodest boy Who is the hunter? Who is the prey? Cry for the broken toy [Chorus] Rip and tear into the flesh until it’s done In your cruel unholy name the war is won This is us, we are scum, Left behind, nowhere to run Against all odds, rev your engines, Starting up a million chainsaw blades Song: VIOLENCE Artist: QUEEN BEE English Translation Source: - Lyrical Nonsense [Verse #1] Awaken, opening my swollen eyes just to Come to this nightmare we are living in, You are scattered out across this room, Cheeks are flushing, blood is rushing To your point of view [Chorus] We don’t talk enough And it feels like the room is sent into topspin I’m burning up inside with these Crude thoughts of you and I, my Darling You know that you were always Never one to run, Unafraid of broken sons— Can you hold me? Keep your eyes wide open, Tears are falling—baby, focus, Don’t look here, Now we’re overflowing, Underneath the sheets of this Rain of Kiss (Yo!) VIOLENCE! [Post-Chorus] It keeps ripping, tearing, bursting at the seams Surgically, quick to fix, Hot and we won’t stop ‘til we’re in the mix Come on, taste me, my heart’s scarred and tough Think you can really make me break? Just between us is our VIOLENCE! <Where the TV Edit Ends> [Verse #2] All of the ones who want to tell you What’s yet to come, cast them all an evil eye Break down these walls closing in on you Fate is free, but please keep a secret Forever more [Chorus] You haven’t done enough, Satisfy me and be rough when we’re sparring; Oblivion awaits, eternity opens its gates Like they’re dancing (Let me tell you every fucking thing that’s on my mind right now) Actually Bored of repetition, Caught up in this same position— It’s a pity Enough to wake you up, New to the bullshit that disrupts, Tears are pouring Overflowing now into this storm cloud, this Rain of Kiss (Yo!) VIOLENCE! [Bridge] Even if nothing matters We can’t stop what follows after Darling, you rev me up (like a chainsaw) Just pull me closer, drag me deeper, ‘fore this ends [Chorus] If in love what goes up comes down, Mile-high flights just come crashing It’s just that Little death you give me Makes this life that more forgiving Know what I mean? We knew that we were always Never ones to run Always chasing the setting suns Do you feel this? Keep your eyes wide open, Tears are falling—baby, focus Don’t look here, Now we’re overflowing, Underneath the sheets of this Rain of Kiss (Yeah!) VIOLENCE! [Post-Chorus] It keeps ripping, tearing, raring for a fight Split wide open, my heart, Fuck it, we won’t stop it ‘til we do it right Come on, take me, I won’t ask to stop, You’re the one I love to hate, That’s between us and our VIOLENCE!
