Dear Readers,

First and foremost, a very happy new year from the team at Snipette! It’s been a wild ride these past few months, with many editors needing to take a break due to exams, but thanks to the dedication and perseverance of our cofounder Badri and editor Neel, we were still able to release our weekly articles.

Editor Dee made a comeback towards the end of this quarter, bringing life back to the Snipette chat room, and returned with a vengeance to our illustrator scene with their take on the recreation of an ancient Egyptian priest’s voice. Their comeback has also allowed for Badri to take a step back and enjoy a well-deserved break.

Departures and Arrivals

Although two of our senior-most editors are taking a break, we are happy to announce that most editors who were taking a break for A-levels are back! It could not have been a more timely arrival either, since we’ve gone through our entire stockpile of articles and are now ready to start putting out fresh articles.

Speaking of arrivals, keep an eye out for our print edition, whose PDF you should be receiving today if you’re subscribed!

Technicalities

Although 2022 was going smoothly for the most part, our hosting provider was hit by a DDoS attack late in November. Luckily, the attack passed and our hosting providers were able to restore our website within 24 hours, as you can find on our Twitter page.

While we’re on the topic of social media, we’re pleased to announce that we’re considering starting an instance on Mastodon! Mastodon is a social media platform where communities can get together on their own terms by hosting their own server, also called an instance.

Crowdfunding!

As mentioned in our previous quarterly update, our crowdfunding campaign came to an end. Although we weren’t able to reach our goal of 750 subscribers, we still were able to raise a substantial amount and can now reduce subscription costs by a small margin!

If you have pledged an amount, you should receive a link to go through with the payment soon!

Moving Forward

Since it’s a new year, we felt it appropriate to start the year off with a series of fresh articles, so we hope you’ll stick around to see what we have planned for everyone! As a New Year’s resolution, we hope to keep putting out weekly articles and uphold our motto of Perspective, Understandability and Fun. Once again, a very happy New Year from us!

Cheers,

Akil, Anjali, Badri, Dee, Diya, Manasa, Neel, Nia and Rhea
