Issue 250 - Price cuts! 🤑

Price Changes

Massive price drops across the entire lineup 📷
This past week, Tesla announced significant price reductions across their entire product lineup. The Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid have seen the greatest reductions in dollar amounts, with a decrease of $21,000 and $19,000, respectively. In terms of percentage, the Model Y Long-Range received a 19.7% discount, making it eligible for the EV Tax Incentive. Similarly, the Model 3 Performance saw a 14.2% reduction and now also qualifies for the incentive. For those who have been considering a purchase, now may be the time!

Nice historical price charts and the price reduction is really impressive when seen in perspective.

Midnight Silver Metallic paint is no longer included 📷
With the recent price drops, Tesla has removed the Midnight Silver Metallic paint option from the list of free options, leaving only the Pearl White Multi-Coat available. This is a departure from Tesla's previous strategy of offering the Midnight Silver Metallic paint option to balance the proportion of white Teslas on the road. It seems likely that we will now see an increased number of white Teslas on the road as a result of this change.

Midnight Cherry Red is now available in Europe 📷
I think this red color is really awesome! I can't wait to see pictures of it out in the world. I hope that Tesla will improve their paint factory in the US and offer something similar in the future.

Safety

Model S & Model Y received the highest overall safety scores among every vehicle tested by Euro NCAP in 2022 📷
It's well known that safety is of paramount importance in Tesla's design philosophy. This week, the company announced that it has received the highest overall safety scores from Euro NCAP for the Model S and Model Y. Specifically, the Model S and Model Y achieved scores of 92%, significantly outpacing their closest competitors, which scored 89%.

Use your Apple Watch as a key to the car
Stats App for Tesla allows you to use your Apple Watch as a key for your Tesla. It operates via Bluetooth, so no internet or phone connection is required for it to function. The Stats App offers a 7-day trial and I highly recommend giving it a try if you own an iPhone. In my opinion, the app is well worth subscribing to.

Franz von Holzhausen Talks Cybertruck, Roadster, and More 🎙
This week, on the latest episode of Ride The Lightning, Ryan McCaffrey had the pleasure of interviewing Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen for the second time. During the hour-long episode, Ryan and Franz delved into a variety of topics, including the Cybertruck, the next-generation Roadster, the new Model S, the yoke, and much more.

Hardware changes

Tesla Model 3 and Model Y will likely not get their stalks deleted
According to Tesla's Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen in a recent interview on Ride the Lightning mentioned above, he stated that while the company is always exploring potential improvements, there is currently no perceived need or demand for a change to the Model 3 and Model Y's stalk controls.

Tesla HW4/AP4 to reduce forward-facing cameras to 2 and add fan 📷
According to an internal document from Giga Shanghai that was leaked on Twitter, the forward-facing camera will be undergoing a change from its current three-camera configuration to two cameras. This is made possible by the increased pixel density and field of view of the new cameras. Furthermore, the leaked document also revealed that Tesla is currently evaluating the addition of a heater to the B-pillar camera.

🤓 What the acronym
As a Tesla fan, I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
  • AP - Autopilot
  • Euro NCAP - European New Car Assessment Programme
  • EV - Electric Vehicle
  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • HW - Hardware
  • PPF - Paint Protection Film
