Source: Associated Press

  1. Summary
House Republicans have selected committee assignments for the new session of Congress. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene will sit on the House Homeland Security Committee and Oversight Committee. Greene has promised to investigate the Biden administration's border policies and said she would support impeaching the Secretary of Homeland Security.

Greene was removed from her committee seats in 2021 over past statements supporting conspiracy theories and violence. She later apologized. Rep. Paul Gosar also gained committee seats after being stripped of them in 2021. House Speaker McCarthy pledged in 2021 that he would eventually reinstate both, and recently said he will deny committee seats to a few Democrats.

The decision to put embattled Rep. George Santos on two committees received criticism, given a long list of accusations that he lied heavily about his resume and background. However, his committee assignments are reportedly considered unfavorable.
