Why were the homes of local officials in Albuquerque shot at?

Source: Associated Press

  1. Summary
On Monday, Albuquerque police arrested unsuccessful Republican state legislature candidate Solomon Peña in connection with recent shootings at the homes of local officials. From Dec. 4, 2022 to Jan. 3, the homes of four Albuquerque Democratic officials were targeted with gunfire. The attacks resulted in no deaths or injuries.

The Albuquerque Police Department alleges that Peña hired four other men to shoot at the homes. After being defeated by a Democratic incumbent who won 74% of the vote, Peña claimed without evidence that the election was rigged. He also showed up at the homes of the local officials uninvited soon after the election claiming to have evidence of election fraud.

Peña previously spent seven years in prison for burglary and had filed complaints of civil rights violations against the private prison operator, which were dismissed. After his release in 2016, he was fired from a job for adding services to customers' accounts without their consent, and in 2019 a self-described business partner told police Peña had threatened him.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - But with some qualifications. I don't really think civilization will end, but I do think it's reasonable to expect that we'll have to keep our showers shorter, consume less of our favorite foods (at least at low cost), be able to go outside less. That said, I think that my overall standard of living won't be terrible here in the U.S. for the most part. More likely people in the global South will see more severe problems. It's not hypothetical, literally a third of Pakistan was flooded just months ago.

No - Climate change itself, no. However, all the laws put in place for climate change will definitely lower our standards of living. In Cal...
