Spotify Newsletter - Spotify Newsletter #144
Hello! Thanks for being here for the latest issue of the Spotify Newsletter. It was a bummer week due to the sudden passing of legendary rock guitarist Jeff Beck. He was so darn good. Beck rose to fame with the Yardbirds before fronting the Jeff Beck Group and making forays into the jazz-fusion sound he pioneered. I have been knee-deep in Beck’s tremendous catalog, and I’m sure music fans have been surfing across Spotify checking out his music. Yes, I could have pulled out the vinyl, or flipped through the CD collection, but it was so nice to quickly click over to Spotify and start surfing Jeff Beck tunes the minute I read about the terrible news of his passing. There’s lots to love about streaming, and plenty to moan about, sure, but the instant connection between listener and music is amazing. The immediacy of access. Love it! I saw the headlines and moments later I was listening to the ‘Truth’ album from the Jeff Beck Group. I don’t need the passing of a music legend to highlight my love of streaming, but in a case like this week, it further highlighted how lucky we are to have the opportunity to obtain so much music - online. Having the amazing music Jeff Beck produced over the years right at my fingertips was comforting; I’m sad about news, but I’m celebrating his legacy by experiencing all of his great music, surfing from one great song to another. Beyond all that … There was a lot of fine news this week; big podcast announcements, plus word is out about the next Spotify event (Stream On), set for March 8th. ★In the SPOTlight★🔥 Spotify will host its next Stream On event on March 8th
