#1 - Making Twitter private

A few days ago I noticed some Twitter accounts I follow go "private".

The theory is that by limiting who can see your tweets to ONLY your followers, your reach should increase.

I'm not sure if it works, but even the Chief Tweet is giving it a try 😂

If you have some sort of audience and this actually works, it could be an interesting strategy.

You get more followers to see your tweets AND generate a sense of FOMO for those on the outside.

#2 - The perfect newsletter welcome sequence

...doesn't exist. But Louis here proposes a structure that makes a ton of sense 👇

Louis is the founder of Sparkloop, the #1 email referral software out there.

He knows a thing or two about newsletters, so it might be wise to listen to him.

Right now I "run" with only one welcome email and that's it, but that's likely to change because of this tweet.

💬 Mini guide: 4 ways to get more replies to your posts

You can engineer engagement and replies on social media.

Your content should generate engagement on its own, but certain types of posts are almost guaranteed to get 10x as many replies as your usual content.

Some people call these "engagement bait".

And they are not wrong.

The examples below are posts 100% geared to get engagement from an audience.

My take: Engagement bait is OK as long as it has a clear purpose (example, audience research) and it's done with a balance.

Having that said, let's dive into the actual examples 👇

🌶️ Hot takes

This is a classic.

Post a niche hot take and watch people flood your replies.

50% will agree with you. The other 50%...

A hot take needs to:

• Be short and to the point
• Make a strong statement
• Leave no room for interpretation.

The most important thing is that it sparks a conversation, not only with you but within the audience.

Warning: If you post a hot take, be prepared to defend yourself. Don't post it just to get attention; post it because you truly believe it

🤔 Ask a question (with constraints)

Questions usually work for engagement, but they need to set some constraints.

It's harder to respond to an open-ended question like "Why do you write online?".

However, if you put some constraints like Jay did...

"In 5 words or less" feels much more doable.

You'll see your engagement skyrocket when you start setting constraints.

🎲 Or ask a question (and make it a game)

Challenge your audience and then motivate them to respond by offering incentives.

Watch how Paddy does it here:

He gamified the question by adding a prize ($100) to the best guess.

The tweet got over 500 replies.

It's unclear whether he delivers on the $100 incentive, but if you decide to go this route, be sure to do it.

🤝 Offer your help

Although this type of post is very time-consuming, it allows you to build a relationship and trust with your audience that is unmatched.

In this example, Josh offers to simply say some kind words for anyone replying.

You can also use this type of tweets to demonstrate your expertise.

Imagine you are a marketing expert. Then you ask people to share their landing page so you can give everyone 1 actionable marketing tip.

Suddenly your replies are flooded with people who need marketing help (hello client leads).

At the same time, you are also proving your expertise, at scale, in public.
