Today we’re listening to Martha Argerich, an Argentine classical pianist from Buenos Aires. Born in 1941, Argerich quickly exhibited precocity and began piano lessons at age 3.¹ In 1965 she won the international Chopin Piano Competition, bringing her international renown. Now, at age 81, she is on a European tour. We’re playing three records from across her career. Chopin: 26 Preludes, from 1987, is one of many of her Chopin records, but the technical range demanded by the preludes makes it a great introduction to her virtuosity. Argerich Plays Tchaikovsky, which just came out on May 20, features an arrangement of “The Nutcracker Suite” for four-handed piano and includes a handful of accompanists. The Complete Sony Recordings from 1975 collects her performances of Beethoven, Debussy, Schumann, and more. Chopin: 26 Preludes - Martha Argerich (60m, no vocals) Argerich Plays Tchaikovsky - Martha Argerich (100m, no vocals) The Complete Sony Recordings - Martha Argerich (220m, no vocals) Have a really good Thursday.
