In this issue of the Recap, we bring you an intriguing look at the realities of DAO pain points, but rest assured the DAO community appears to have a good handle on the path forward.

It’s not all blue skies and groovy threads though, there is plenty of work to be done to provide decentralized alternatives to the boardroom-led fiascos that present themselves as social media platforms. Privacy By Design: The Promise of Decentralized Social Identities

With a decentralized identity, a user can create a social media profile that is not reliant on a centralized platform for continued existence. Decentralized identities can also help solve the hard problem of data ownership — as users can choose where their personal information should be used and have the authority to revoke that access at any time — and security, as decentralization adds two critical layers of security, making it comparatively tricky for hackers.

WTF Is a Hash Rate?

The Bitcoin blockchain uses proof-of-work (PoW) to achieve consensus. Computing power is expended in order to be first to successfully guess the answer to a complex math problem called a hash function, the purpose of which is to cryptographically link blocks together.

“Scientists estimate there are 10 quintillion insects on earth; as of today, there are 36 million times more guesses per second occurring to solve the hash and add a block to the Bitcoin timechain than there are insects in the world.”’
