Today’s essay:

Be action-obsessed, not outcome-obsessed.

Most people obsess over outcomes and results they want to get.

They want immediate success within weeks of working out, or launch a podcast/business, or posting on social media. They fail to understand that those who achieve extraordinary results are more invested in the journey than the outcome itself. They are committed to taking daily action & they trust in the process.

Take Steph Curry as an example; he doesn't concentrate solely on his scorecard or end-of-season stats. Instead, he finds joy and flow within every game which allows him to make astounding shots and surpass scoreboard expectations.

To excel in your field, you should focus on becoming prolific at doing what you love rather than seeking rewards or recognition immediately. It's crucial to choose a field where you're passionate about your work and feel like it's your calling; even though some parts may be less enjoyable than others.

Think of it like planting seeds as a farmer does - keep sowing consistently without expecting immediate growth each day. Your intrinsic success metric should be tied to whether you've planted seeds for the future aka taking committed daily actions instead of achieving specific outcomes instantly.

While society solely cares about external wins, you have to care about the journey to get there.

Be someone who commits to action without tying your self-worth with outcomes or immediate results - these are bonuses but shouldn't be your main focus.

I’ll end this one of my favorite quotes from Bhagavad Gita on this topic.

“ Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana,

Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani”

The meaning of the verse is—

“You have the right to work only but never to its fruits.

Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.
