As Product Manager, Nate experienced firsthand the manual, frustrating task of consolidating customer data from various departments.


That experience got him thinking: there had to be a better way.


So, in 2019, Nate and his co-founders set out to build Artifact, using large language models to automate these painful tasks.


But developing their SaaS product presented unique challenges...


First, they lacked the necessary data to train their machine-learning models—a critical component for any AI-powered product.


Also their Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) varied significantly across different organizations, complicating their go-to-market strategy considerably.


In this episode, you'll learn:

  • The clever tactic Nate used to acquire valuable training data from early design partners for Artifact's AI models.

  • How scaling up too soon led to problems, almost sinking Artifact due to disappointing results and poor unit economics.
