1. Grow your subscriber base via Reddit comments and posts

What’s the tactic?

Promote your newsletter by posting and commenting in relevant subreddits. Posts and comments should be extensive (at least 100 words). They should also provide valuable insights and advice before mentioning your newsletter—staying clear of any obvious promotion.

Eric from Exploding Ideas built a newsletter to more than 7K subscribers using this approach.

2. Match your landing page H1 to your user’s search terms

What’s the tactic? 

When running Google Ads, use dynamic text to make your landing page H1 and supporting text match the exact keyword(s) your user searched for. This makes your content look more relevant.

What was the result?

Harvey Karalić almost doubled his client’s conversion rate (CVR), from 8.03% to 13.73%.

3. Get more signups by calling your offer a free "gift”

What’s the tactic? 

Instead of offering a discount for users to sign up to your newsletter, label it a free “gift” instead. You can also add a “No gift, thanks” option. This gets people curious as to what they will receive.

What was the result?

Brandon Snower increased his conversion rate from 1-2% when offering 10% off, to 7-9% with a free gift offer.

4. Notify freemium users when they can unlock a feature with a free trial

What’s the tactic? 

Make it easy for freemium users to understand what’s included in a free trial of your premium product. When they land on a locked feature, serve them a notification that lets them know they can unlock it by activating their free trial. This helps freemium users see the value of the trial, and make them more likely to sign up.

What was the result?

By applying this tactic, Jordan Callister saw a 190% increase in freemium users signing up for a free trial of the premium product.

5. Create pattern interruptions in your videos to keep people engaged

What’s the tactic? 

Grab and retain your audience’s attention with simple, storytelling videos that combine:

1. Quick cuts, with a change in the setting and/or angle for every key point (creating pattern interruptions).
2. Text-based animations to further draw attention to key points, and add an additional layer of narrative.

Oyinkro states that this one video helped Recfindr generate 5x new leads, and more than 200 signups. It also gained 8K+ views and 400 likes in less than 24 hours.
