Johnathan Dane - a PPC guru - shared his secret trick (not A/B testing) on how he managed to:
1. Decrease Cost Per Click by ~3 times.
2. Increase CTR by ~3 times.
3. Outrank his competitors, even if his keyword bid is lower.

Did you know that when you place a keyword phrase into your ad group, Google automatically shows it to multiple search terms that do not match your exact keyword phrase? This innocent "automation" kills your CPC, CTR, everything but Google's profits.


Here's this trick that has worked for him for over 2 years:

1. Create a new Ad Group per single keyword phrase.

2. In order to force an exact match, add your keyword phrase as in this example:
+CPA +firm +Chicago
"CPA firm Chicago"
[CPA firm Chicago]

3. Add your exact keyword phrase to your title, URL, write benefits in the first line and call to action in the second.

4. Add into each ad group level all negative keywords that appear in the search term report in order to exclude long tail search terms.

5. Boost your income and outrank your lazy competitors ;).
