Through nothing but pure trial and error, I discovered several simple life-changing things that helped me stay productive, and I wanted to cover a few of them for you today.

Time Blocking...and the Pomodoro technique - and combining them

The Art of Time Blocking

What is Time Blocking? Time blocking is when you divide your day into blocks of time, each dedicated to accomplishing a specific task or group of tasks. If you have a job and are buying an online business as a side hustle THIS WILL BE KEY!

How to actually make Time Blocking work?

Start by listing your tasks for the week. Then, allocate specific time blocks for these tasks in your calendar. Remember, the key is to be realistic about how much time each task will take and to include breaks and buffer times.

This may seem crazy for many of you, but for those who NEED structure (like me) to get tedious work done, it's a game changer.

So this is great, right? You start with a todo list (my favorite app for that is https://todoist.com/)

Then you can place your tasks in your calendar with time blocking, but how do we stay productive DURING that time?

This is where the Pomodoro Technique comes in...

Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length (you can make it longer or shorter), separated by short breaks.

Each interval is known as a Pomodoro, named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used.

Choose a task, set a timer for 25 minutes, and work until the timer rings. Then take a 5-minute break. After four Pomodoros, take a longer break of 15-30 minutes.

I know this sounds silly...but it works.

Now to tie it all together? The most basic way to be super productive as a small online business owner?

1. Make a To-Do List

• First things first, jot down everything you need to tackle. This list is your roadmap for the day or week ahead. (I can't function without a todo list)

2. Outline Your Day with Time Blocks

• Take that to-do list and start carving out your day into time blocks. Assign each task or group of tasks to specific blocks of time.

3. Implement the Pomodoro Technique Within Each Block

• Within these time blocks, use the Pomodoro Technique. Set a timer for focused work (like 25 minutes), followed by a short break. This works yall...trust me.

4. Adjust Pomodoro Duration for Intense Tasks

• Got a task that needs deep focus? Flex the rules a bit. Extend your Pomodoro to 50 minutes for those big, brainy tasks.

Simple. Done.
