I talked with a group of publishers last week. They’d just come back from a conference where a speaker told them that the right number of links to include in an email was 15. They wanted to know: Did I agree?

I told them what I know to be true: There is no “right” strategy for email.

There is no right topic.

There is no right format.

There is no right number of emails to send per week.

There is certainly no right number of links.

It’s up to you to figure out what works for you and your audience.

A Big List of Things You Can A/B Test

A/B testing is one of the cornerstones of a great newsletter strategy. But the challenge for most newsletter operators, I’ve found, is figuring out what to test — and how often.

So I’ve put together a big list of things you can test, from the newsletter envelope to automations to conversion emails. (A/B testing isn’t just for subject lines!)

Plus, I know you’ve got questions about testing:
  • Which tests should I prioritize?
  • How big does my list need to be to run a test?
  • How much can I test at one time?
  • What if I don’t learn anything from a test?
I’ve answered all of that — and more! — inside this A/B testing deep dive.
Let’s start testing! →
